im 99% sure this was me as well, went up saying i wanted a small hot chocolate and they looked at me like i was insane and tried to explain the sizes to me and then came...WHIP CREAM OR NAH?! and i was like.... FK
全く自分と同じだわ。ホットチョコレートのスモールを頼んだら、変な目で見られてサイズの説明をされたよ。で、ホイップクリームにするかどうかだって！？そして俺は闇落ちした。

Well, if you want to order coffee from a place that's pretentious... you could always do a little research.Or y'know you could ask the servers there "Hey - so, I've only ever like drank regular breakfast blend coffee that was made from a coffee pot, or from some place like tim hortons. Can you tell me a little bit more about what's going on here?", if you have time. Most people are generally pretty okay with describing stuff, and if you show some interest a barista will make the SHIT out of your coffee.Medium is a bit closer to what you're probably familiar with though, dark roast has a bit more of a bitter taste to it and it's got a bit of a stronger smell, it can almost taste burnt.
まぁ、こういった場所でコーヒーを頼みたかったら少しは調べてから言った方がいいよ。もしくは店員さんに聞いて見ればいいよ。「すみません、実はコーヒーポットやファミレスのブレンドコーヒーしか飲んだことないんです。もしよかったら、少し説明してもらえませんか？」ほとんどの人が優しく説明してくれるよ。興味を示そうものなら嫌と言うほどにね。ミディアムはあなたも良く知ってるやつに近いけど、ダークローストは重めのどっしりとした苦めの味で、力強い風味があるよ。

確かに。
Starbucks makes you feel worse because they make up Italian-sounding words (Frapuccino??) whereas the coffee shop here in Nichijou is just using actual Italian words/terms.
スターバックスは"イタリア風の言葉"（フラペチーノ？？※スターバックスの登録商標になっている造語）を作りやがったのが更に嫌なんだよ。一方、このアニメのコーヒー店では、実際の"イタリア語"を使ってるだけだ。

Some people avoid going into Starbucks because it's expensive, I avoid it just because it's so damn confusing.

I love how genuine the counter girl reaction is. Yukko's too intense for a regular person!

The counter girl's reaction needs cultural context. Japan is all about manners and honoring the customer. The girl was deathly afraid of directly correcting Yukko and risk hurting her pride, so she ended up acting like Yukko knew what she was ordering, which only made it worse because Yukko didn't want to let on that she was clueless so the cycle of politeness and saving face reached a fever pitch so much so that it made Yukko shut down and tell the girl to just do whatever. It was because Yukko was so anxious and ashamed of her ignorance that she couldn't relax and just ask the girl to explain everything. It's especially funny because the Starbucks corporate coffee jargon culture is so pretentious yet insignificant but Yukko doesn't know even that.
店員さんの反応は文化的な側面があるんだよ。日本では、お客様への礼儀と敬意が全てなんだ。店員さんは間違いを伝えることで、ユッコのプライドを傷つけてしまうことを恐れたんだ。だからわかってる前提で対応することにしたんだけど、それは状況をもっと悪くするだけだった。ユッコは自分が無知だと思われたくなかったから何も言えずに黙るしかなく、礼儀とプライドの関係は修復不可能な状況に達し、「適当にお願いします」と言うしかなかった。ユッコは自分が無知であることを気にし過ぎたもんだから、店員さんに全てを伝えることが出来なかったってわけ。スターバックスコーヒーの業界用語文化は、かっこつけてるだけで気にする必要ないんだけど、ユッコはそのことすら知らない。

同じような体験をしたという方が多くいて不思議だったんですが、Grande (グランデ) Venti (ベンティ)はイタリア語だったんですね。
分からないことを分からないと素直に言える人間になりたいと思いました。
