There is no context. Actually, the only thing that would shed a little light on what the hell is going on in this scene is the fact that Mai is the Queen of Trolling.
説明とか一切無いからね。ていうか、マイが悪戯の女王っていう事実を、このシーンを通して遠回しに示してるんだ。
It's not that she's the queen of trolling. She's a totally free spirit. We don't have the category of character in the west. Mai can do anything and be anything she wants, regardless of what's going.

Mai-chan is the silent one but really likes making jokes especially to Yuuko. Also she can troll, hardcore.

Mai is very intelligent so she finished her test early. She knows yukko is easily distracted and kind of dumb so she's trying to troll her so that yukko doesn't finish her test.
