Cause people easily mistake it for another overly stereotyped moeshit. Even i at the beginning was thinking this was another k-on like crap.
他の典型的な萌えアニメとしてみんな見てるからだろ。俺も最初は、また別のクソみたいな『けいおん!!』アニメかよ、とか思ってたし。
The price for the DVD was too high, so it did not sell well.
DVDの価格が高すぎてあんま売れなかったんだよね。
It started airing in april 2011, wich was a little bit after the dissasters that happened in Japan, the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear accident. People simply didn't have the time nor the mood to see it, wich led to not being popular, in youtube on the other hand, it became pretty popular since we didn't have to worry about our lives.
このアニメは2011年4月から放送されて、その後しばらくして日本で大きな災害が起こったんだ。大地震、津波に原発事故だね。だから、みんなアニメを見て楽しむような雰囲気じゃなかったこともあって、いまいち話題にならなかった。その一方で、相変わらずyoutubeを観ていた俺達の間で、このアニメは爆発的に人気が出たんだね。

You know this is one of the few animes that don't have any fanservice. (I like it as it is, but I wish there was more rule34 fanart :D )

Hakase is actually right about one thing. Brushing teeth (with paste) gives your teeth protection, so you brush them before eating, but after eating you can brush without paste to wipe the rest
博士の言ってることも一理ある。歯磨き粉を使って歯を磨くことで、歯は保護される。だから何かを食べる前に歯を磨くんだ。食べた後は残りカスを掃除するだけだから、歯磨き粉は使わなくてもいいんだよ。

No. Because the minty taste will ruin the taste of the snacks. Also the longer you got tooth paste with fluoride in your mouth the better for your teeth. Leaving sugar residue in your mouth overnight will increase the growth of cavity inducing bacteria.
いや違うね。ミントの香りはお菓子の味を台無しにするだろうが。それに、フッ化物の歯磨き粉は口内に長く残る方が歯のためにはいいんだ。一晩でも口内に糖分が残っていると、虫歯菌は増殖してしまうからね。
Poor Nano, Hakase could be pretty rude sometimes.

博士はまだ8歳だぞ。
nano's only sad about that because it makes her less normal than a human. she wants to feel and look more like a human rather than a robot

The fact that Nichijou bombed in sales is one of the greatest tragedies I have ever seen. The show is so amazing, from the art, to the characters, the comedy, and even the sweetness (like this scene). It is blatantly obvious that the animators LOVED doing this show. They put their hearts and souls into it. The fact that it sold so poorly is a goddamn shame, while moeblob shit like K-On sold like gangbusters. Such a goddamn shame...
『日常』の売上が悪かったことは悲劇と言わざるを得ないよ。このアニメは、キャラクター、コメディ、愛らしさ（今回のシーンのような）、どれをとっても芸術的で、本当に素晴らしいんだ。アニメーターがこの作品にこめた"愛"がはっきりと伝わるよ。それだけに、売上が悪かったのが本当に残念。萌え要素だけで中身が空っぽな『けいおん!!』はアホみたいに売れたのに。。。ほんとに残念でならない。
I swear, whenever I'm feeling down I watch this anime and it cheers me right up.
